Under Suspicion

Patrick recently received what appeared to be a very complimentary email from the extraordinary New York vibraphonist Joe Locke. Initially, he felt a deep sense of inner contentment. Patrick was flattered that a musician of Joe’s calibre was acknowledging him for his accomplishments. It’s always nice to be recognized by your peers. To quote Joe, “It appears that you can jump higher than any bass player currently active on the scene!!!”
It was after reading the questions that followed that Patrick’s mood changed abruptly from contentment to horror. “Do you take performance enhancing drugs?” Patrick read, and wondered how his public could doubt his integrity. “Would you like to buy some?” the email continued. Is this how Joe is able to play at such blinding tempos?
